The Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau dates from the year 1401, when the six existing hospitals in Barcelona merged. This is how the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau was born. At the end of the 19th Century, as a result of the growth of the city and breakthroughs in medicine, the Hospital had become too small and a construction on a new building was considered.
There is a Modernism Route Information Desk. It opens from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm, Monday to Sunday. Information is available on activities related to modernist heritage in general, and about the architect Lluis Domènech i Montaner in particular.
